Youth Hostel Association Exmoor

Here are six Youth Hostels in and around Exmoor, ranging in size and character from a small self-catering hostel to larger seaside and country hostels. Each offers a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere to walkers, cyclists, families, groups and international travellers.Youth hostels provide comfortable accommodation in bunk bedded rooms and offer a good range of facilities. Most provide an excellent value meals service and self catering facilities for complete flexibility. Youth Hostels are a great place for families to stay. Family bunk-rooms with washbasins and storage facilities are available at many hostels and families booking bunkrooms are given a key so they can come and go as they please during the day. As YHA family accommodation is especially popular at weekends and during school holidays, advance booking is recommended. As well as inter-hostel walking routes there are several national trails, including the South West Coast Path, the Two Moors Way and the Tarka Trail. Sustrans National Cycle Route 3 and the Devon Coast to Coast go through the area and there are some great off road moutain bike trails.There are plenty of cycle hire outlets if you don't have your own bike.

The West Somerset Steam Railway links in from Taunton in the East and there are mainline services to Barnstaple. National and private bus routes cross the area. As well as boat trips to Lundy, there are ferry links to South Wales and good opportunities for sea fishing. You can also try pony trekking on the moors. So why not go green and leave your car behind?
