The Exmoor Video Project - A local Community Development
AIM: To collectively produce a HD video for the benefit of Tourism on Exmoor and its surrounding area, by people who have a passion for Exmoor and willing to contribute and be involved to do the work needed without need to seek any financial reward or personal recognition.
This work may include: information of history or local knowledge; places to recommend for filming, times of the year to find suitable filming situations, the recommending of people or groups where further information could be accessed, still photographs of high quality, video using HD quality preferably full 1920HD.
BY: Bringing together HD video footage from any member of the community who wanted their work to be put forward for use by the community of Exmoor who are seeking to promote the area and its diversity for the benefit of the local tourism industry and other business’s who in return employ local people through the season. During the winter months my personal preference is to sit in front of my computer and edit video. As we don’t see tourists for some 5 months of the year I have some time I need to spend fulfilling my life! After birds and animals have been fed that is.
Short term Goal: To form a Team of volunteers who want to contribute time and effort as well as gather footage of Exmoor showing the beauty of its wildlife, countryside, shoreline, sports and activities. To edit this material during winter months of 2011 ready for a ‘spring/easter launch’ in 2012 with hopefully some local and National press coverage.
Long Term Goal: To have a video good enough to be shown by National TV stations or satellite/cable TV that is shown on a regular basis to promote the area of Exmoor as a tourist destination. For distribution as a free/cheap video to ‘get it out there’ in the public domain to encourage people to explore the idea of a holiday or break here.
Funding: It is seen that all team members will volunteer their own time and expense whether for time, equipment or petrol etc so the project is not held responsible for their costs. Where funding is seen to be very much welcomed and important it is in 1) Music license rights and 2) Reproducing and distribution costs.
Knock-on: It is hoped that any footage will be freely available to any person promoting Exmoor on their own web site or DVD, which seeks to help bring more people to the area. EG Footage used during the documentary might also be used for smaller You tube videos of particular places or activities etc. Therefore the footage needs to be given freely and seen as public domain and not licensed or copyrighted.
Profits: Although the intention is to create a Video as a not for profit community Promotional DVD that can be freely given, it is acknowledged it does provide an opportunity for local trust and organisations to benefit from any profits that might be made through sales. It is suggested any profits are to be used to support our local charities/worthy causes such as the Mousie and Moorland, Somerset Wildlife, Exmoor Pony Society, Porlock Visitor Centre, Hawk and Owl Trust.
If a group or individual were to purchase a number of dvd’s from us at cost price and sold them on to customers then maybe they could pass on any profits to the charity of their choice. This would keep the money very local and avoid complications as it is seen that the numbers we are talking about might not be that many and I know how much people enjoy supporting their favourite charities.
