Sydenham Family
Sydenham Family
In the All Saints Church in Dulverton the North Aisle has Sydenham Memorials. They were moved to the Church Tower, which was not rebuilt, and were subsequently returned to the place near where the Sydenham vault was situated prior to rebuilding of the church. The oldest Sydenham memorial, a brass plate, dates back to 1716 when Humphrydus Sydenham died. Later Sydenhams are also commemorated. The Sydenham family lived at Combe in the parish of Dulverton from 1540 to 1874 with other branches of the family in the neighbourhood. They owned much property in the Dulverton. Sir Francis Drake married his second wife Elizabeth Sydenham of Combe Sydenham near Monksilver and may well have visited the Sydenham family at Combe near Brushford.
