Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust

The Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway was formed formed in 1862, an amalgamation of the Somerset Central and Dorset Central Railways. It connecting Bath to Bournemouth with branches to Burnham on Sea, Wells and Bridgwater. It was closed to passengers 6th March 1966. Explore the mass of exhibits, ponder on the old station names, soak up the evocative atmosphere. Marvel at the Railway Coach built in 1886 at Highbridge, that became a Cricket Pavilion.

Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust was formed in 1966 (as Railway Circle).The membership are helping to preserve a part of the past for the future.The Museum is only part of our commitment to keeping the memory of the S & D alive. Events with locomotives in steam are held occasionally at Washford. These are to be found advertised locally and in the Railway Press. Step back in time as you operate the levers in the reconstructed Midford Signal Box.
