Northmoqr Chapel was the chapel for John Locke, who had nearby Northmoor House built in 1859. The Rev. George Jellicoe was employed as tutor to his eight children and chaplain of the chapel, which was mysteriously burned down in 1900, whilst in the ownership of Sir Frederick Wills, the tobacco magnate. Northmoor House is a Victorian country residence set amongst steep wooded valleys on the edge of Exmoor. The house is surrounded by 100 acres of private gardens and woodland.
