Willingcott Valley Golfing & Leisure Village
After two years of redevelopment work at Willingcott Valley Golf Course, the proprietors have added nine extra holes to their current facilities, turning the new course into a prestigious 6200-yard par 71. The course is built in two loops of nine with the option to play either 9 or 18 holes depending on the time available. The golfing holiday, and society golf market, is a large part of Willingcott's business. Great golf, luxury accommodation and fine food are available at very reasonable package prices in our character 16th Century clubhouse. For those who want a diversion from golf, why not bring your fishing rods and enjoy some good carp fishing. Golf Architect Peter Lang designed the new nine holes. He has extended the original Hawtree design, incorporating more lakes on the west side of the course, whilst developing a more sculptured links style environment on the east side, with large revetted bunkers and undulating greens. At 5795 yards off the yellow tees the course is approachable for most golfers, but off the white tees, the back nine, measuring over 3300 yards with water everywhere, offers a daunting challenge. The whole course is incredibly picturesque, with far reaching rural views over the pretty village of West Down, as far as the Brendon Hills. Don't miss out on the opportunity to play Willingcott Valley.

Facilities include, North Devon's premier undercover floodlit golf range and two parkland courses designed by FW.Hawtree & Son. The Royal North Devon Golf Club (sometimes known as Westward Ho!) is the oldest Links Course in England and was laid out on Northam Burrows in 1864 by 'Old' Tom Morris.

The course represents a true test of golf because although from Northam or Westward Ho! the burrows looks too flat for a challenging golf course, once on the course the sight of great sea rushes, a huge timber fronted bunker, burn and ditches present a formidable challenge. The course which stretches towards the pebble ridge (which keeps out the sea) has three par fives, eleven par fours and four par threes and a SSS of 72.
A trip in to the Rambling Wooden Clubhouse suggests that it is more than a flag on an Ordnance Survey map • rather a museum and an academy to the game of golf. Ancient wooden clubs adorn the walls and include a host of golfing memorabilia and golfing history related to Westward Ho!
A visit to the Royal North Devon Golf Club is essential for lovers of golf. Please ring for tee times, green fees and membership details.

Location: From M5 Junction 27 on to A361 continue over new Torridge Bridge and turn right at roundabout following signs to Westward Ho!/Appledore and Northam. Just before entering Westward Ho! take turning right into Beach Rd, turn right at bottom into Golf Links Rd & the Golf Club is approx. quarter of a mile on the left.

Saunton Golf Club
Saunton offers two magnificent 18 hole championship standard links courses. Golf has been played at Saunton for more then 100 years and the East Course, redesigned in 1919 by the famous W.Herbert Fowler, has remained essentially unchanged since that date. It is a true links course with holes settling in between the dunes and has played host to many prestigious amateur championships. The newer West Course was originally built in the mid-thirties but was lost as a battle training ground during the Second World War. In 1973 the decision was made to rebuild the course. Frank Pennink was the architect and the work was completed in 1975. The course has matured well and is equal in quality to the East but in many ways, although shorter, is a more exacting test of golf requiring greater accuracy to avoid the many ditches.
There are a number of practice areas and two practice greens, clubhouse with large lounge bar, excellent restaurant and a well stocked Professional's Shop with trained staff. Visitors are welcome and party or society bookings can be made at special rates. Visitors are expected to be members of Affiliated Golf Clubs and will be asked to produce a Handicap Certificate when registering to play. Covered practice range now available.
