Exmoor Sea Fishing
A variety of fishing is undertaken in the Bristol Channel, from uptiding on inshore sandbanks for Rays, Turbot and Smooth-hounds to the deep water reefs and wrecks which provide Conger, Huss and Pollack etc. The summer months provide some fine catches of Bass (current Bristol Channel record 141b 4oz). The winter also has excellent sport with a variety of species which include Cod, Whiting and Spurdog. Trips range from a few hours to all day or seven day charters where accommodation in friendly pubs can be arranged. Tackle available for hire. Beach fishing is popular at Porlock Weir and Blue Anchor. Excellent sea fishing is also available for free (except for lost tackle!) along much of the coast with catches of bass, cod, dog fish, whiting, conger and skate all reported. Some of the stony beaches and rocky headlands are limited by the state of the tide and is often hard on tackle. Joining an escorted boat fishing trip can be a more reliable way to catch sea fish and there are many trips to choose from at very reasonable prices. Boats run from Minehead, Combe Martin, Porlock Weir, Watchet and Ilfracombe
