Exmoor Zoo opened in 1982 and is now an ideal family venue. New exhibits and animals appear every year. The zoo has always specialised in smaller animals in the past, providing 'natural' living spaces for many creatures no longer seen in the city zoos. Exmoor Zoo is a unique and unusual zoo to visit! Opened in 1982 the zoo is now an ideal family venue, catering very well for the younger generation. So much change has taken place, that even a visit last year, will today see new exhibits and animals. There are over 200 different species of animal and bird to see at the zoo with several big events held every year. The daily regime includes many chances to see animals of all kind being fed and cleaned. From big cats to small insects, there is everything to see if you love animals a great experience for children of all ages. There is even a special attraction for those looking for the Exmoor beast Ebony a rare black leopard plays the part of the beast.

Today, new exhibits exist for larger animals such as cheetah, puma, maned wolves and sitatunga, and of course the zoo is now home to the famous "Exmoor Beast"!

Exmoor Zoo is different from other zoos. It is not a wildlife park or a city zoo, but a more personal, friendly and contact-orientated zoo which has grown into a North Devon Valley. This is reflected by the talks and encounter sessions (at least every half hour or more in the summer) - a visit will undoubtedly show you there is a lot more here than first meets the eye!
