Exmoor Trust
The Exmoor Trust was registered as a charity in 1999. Our aim and objects are threefold:
- To conserve and enhance for the public benefit the area known as Greater Exmoor.
- To educate the public to appreciate and respect all aspects of its historical, physical and cultural environment.
- To further such charitable purposes for the benefit of Exmoor as the Trustees shall determine from time to time.
The Greater Exmoor area covered by the Trust extends from Watchet to Coombe Martin in the North, to South Molton and Clayhanger in the South, and includes Minehead.
The Trust achieves its objectives by raising, managing, and disbursing the funds and using its influence and expertise to help secure outcomes needed for the benefit of the area.
The Exmoor Trust is not a large organisation, having 10 Trustees who are elected from the membership limited to 40 life and 100 annual members. Our income is derived from gifts, donations, membership fees, as well as invested income and we have made, on average, annual gifts of some £10,000. The contribution made is not always dependent on financial assistance and we have also been successful in participating in partnerships to raise awareness of key issues.
Grants
As a charity the Trust cannot make grants to businesses but can help communities, organisations and individuals. Since its foundation the Exmoor Trust has typically: provided immediate alleviation from the impact of the Foot and Mouth Disease to 62 families; given major support for the training and development of Young Farmers; assisted tourist organisations in revitalising their marketing and management; provided key support for the opening of the new Jubilee Trail; and played a significant role in plans to improve the Moorland of Exmoor. In addition, we have provided smaller grants for a number of school activities, play grounds, sensory garden projects, as well as for disadvantaged groups.
At the moment we are only able to give limited grants but we do want to react promptly to calls for assistance. Whether you are a local individual, family, community or organisation needing help we would like to hear from you.
