Exmoor Search and Rescue Team
The Exmoor Search & Rescue Team was founded in 1992 with the aim of assisting the Pohce in searching for lost and missing persons on Exmoor and the surrounding area. The Team has been assessed and approved by the Police and accepted into membership of the Mountain Rescue Council and the South West of England Rescue Association. The Pohce authorities classify the Team as an "Operational Resource" meaning that the Team is
liable to be called on to assist the Pohce an emergency which may arise and not only those relating to missing persons. In 2005 the Team were placed on stand-by and called out on over 25 occasions. 2006 has started with a call-out to Crewkeme on New Year's Day and has continued in that busy vain!
The area to which the Team is likely to be called out is not restricted to Exmoor, but can be virtually anywhere north of a line extending from the Comish border in the west via Hatherleigh, Crediton, Tiverton and on to Taunton, Bridgwater and Hinkley Point Recent call for assistance has taken the Team off to Frome; Axminster; Bumham-on-Sea; Great Tonington and Crewkeme.
