The Court House, the seat of the Luttrell family

Near to the parish church of St Mary is the Court House, the seat of the Luttrell family from the 11th century. A local residence, Townsend House, had a famous occupant, Sarah Biffen, born in 1784 without arms or legs. She never exceeded 37" in length yet showed a great talent for painting, holding the brush between her teeth. She was awarded a medal by the Society of Art and counted royalty among her patrons.
