East Anstey
East Anstey: tiny village (church, school) on Exmoor’s southern edge, 2½ miles east of West Anstey. Anstey Common (heather moorland), 1½ miles away, is popular with red deer. Dulverton (tiny town) and Tarr Steps about 6 miles away. There isa simple memorial in East Anstey church commemorating those who lost their lives in the First World War.
There is also a memorial is in East Anstey church which commemorates Albert William Tarr who was killed on the railway line on the 8 January 1935. Being deaf and dumb and unable to raise the alarm he threw himself in front of a train in an attempt to save a woman and child.
