Dunster Castle Hotel

Dunster Castle Hotel was originally built as a private house, probably in around 1720, with later additions. It was occupied variously by members of the Luttrell family and the managers they employed to run their considerable estate. It became known as the Dower House. During the Second World War it was pressed into service as an army medical centre and conversion to a hotel followed in the 1970s.

Without a doubt the real gem is its hall, running the full width of the building at the rear, with a massive, carved (and listed) fireplace, and its incomparable view towards St George's Church and the wooded slopes of Grabbist Hill behind it.
