Devon

The word "Devon" comes from the name of a Celtic tribe which occupied this south-west corner of England in Romano-British times. The first references to "Defenascir" (Devonshire) are recorded in the Anglo-Saxon chronicles of the 9th century. Devon is the third largest county in England.
