Chalice Well Garden
Chalice Well Garden
Chalice Well Garden in Glastonbury has a long history. Legend says that Joseph of Arimathea, uncle to Jesus, travelled here after the crucifixion. He buried cruets from the Holy Land beside the spring that rises in the garden. The cruets contained blood and water from the wounds of Christ. From that day forth the water of the spring became red. Pilgrims came for centuries to drink the waters of the well, and the water was channelled to Glastonbury Abbey grounds.

In the mid-eighteenth century the well enjoyed immense popularity as a place of miraculous healing. The beautifully landscaped four-acre gardens are open every day of the year. Chalice Well is a World Peace Garden and the only public garden in Glastonbury. Those who wish to support the goals of the Chalice Well Trust can become a 'Companion' or volunteer to help in the gardens. For more information visit www.chalicewell.org.uk
